One of the biggest things that I have had to conquer in my Christian walk is fear. Until God started working on my heart I never knew just how much fear was in there. The amazing thing is now that I am free, I don't know how I ever lived carrying around the weight of fear that I did.

One of the things that really helped me was to place my focus on God's Word. When I got afraid there were scriptures I had memorized and would repeat to myself, which would give me strength to conquer that fear.

So today I am going to share with you fourteen verses that have I used when I was fearful and I hope that they will help you too.

'There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.' – 1 John 4:18

The more I came to realize just how much God loves me, the easier it was to trust Him and let go of the fear.

'Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.' – Joshua 1:9

When I realized that God commanded us not to fear I realized that if He commanded it, then He would give me the strength to conquer it.

'Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.' – Matthew 10:31

I am valuable to God and because of that He watches over me.

'For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, 'Abba, Father.'” – Romans 8:15

Fear is not my friend, but I use to think it was. Once I knew it was bondage I chose to get rid of it with my Father's help.

'For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.' – 2 Timothy 1:7

'So we may boldly say: 'The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?'' – Hebrews 13:6

The Lord wants to help us in our fear, we do not have to deal with it alone.

'After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, 'Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.'' – Genesis 15:1

I love this verse. Not only does he shield us so that we don't have to be afraid, but He rewards us as well. How great is our God!

'And Moses said to the people, 'Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today.'' –Exodus 14:13a

Through this Scripture I have learned that the best thing to do when you are fearful is to be still and not react.

'When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God is with you, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.' – Deuteronomy 20:1

There are times when the battle with fear seems so big and overwhelming, but when God is with us, we realize how small it is to Him and that knowledge brings us strength.

'The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?' – Psalm 27:1

I use to be afraid of people and what they would say about me. Now I know who I am in God and that He protects me.

'Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You.' – Psalm 56:3

God is trustworthy and He has proven Himself faithful to help me with all my fear.

'Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.' – Isaiah 41:10

I love the fact that there is nothing that can take me away from God.

'Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.' – John 14:27

Not only do I not have to be afraid, but God will give me peace as well.

'I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress;

My God, in Him I will trust.'
Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler
And from the perilous pestilence.
He shall cover you with His feathers,
And under His wings you shall take refuge;
His truth shall be your shield and buckler.' – Psalm 91:2-4

He is my refuge - Psalm 91:2

I highly suggest that you read all of Psalm 91 because there is so much in there that talks about God protecting us and what He protects us from. I have used this scripture to comfort myself many times in many situations.

As you can see through Scripture, fear and worry are not things that God wants in your life. They hinder you from having God's best and it is time to let them go. God will help you. You are not alone. Our God is bigger than anything that you face and is on your side. So don't be afraid!
