5 Morning Prayers to Start Your Day Off Right

I truly believe that the best way to start the day off is with the Lord. When we put our relationship with Him first, it strengthens us to live victoriously each and every day.

Does that mean sometimes sacrificing sleep and getting up early to spend quiet time in prayer with Him? Yes, but here is the thing, not only do you get used to it, but after time you will actually want to get up to spend time with Him. It is in those quiet times of prayer that He can speak to your heart, give you wisdom and knowledge, make you feel loved, and give you strength.

God knows what we are going to face each day, and in those times of prayer He will give you what you need for the day. Does that mean that you can’t pray for things during the day as they happen? Of course not. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 says, “pray without ceasing,” but when you spend proper time with the Lord in the morning it better equips you to handle the situations you will face.

So why the morning? As well as preparing us for the day ahead, it’s scriptural. When I typed “early morning” into a Bible search it came up with forty-six results and most of them fell into two categories: getting up early to pray (e.g. Judges 21:4) or getting up early to go to war (e.g. Judges 9:33), which I find really interesting. So maybe one of the best times to do spiritual warfare in prayer is in the early morning.

So What Are The 5 Best Types Of Prayers To Start Your Morning Off Right?

1. Thanksgiving

For me there is no better way to start the day than to thank the Lord for a new day, His love, and all that He is going to do with me today.

In 1 Chronicles 16:34 it says, “Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.” No matter how your day starts, you can always thank the Lord for His mercy and that He has saved you.

I have found that starting my day with thanksgiving helps me focus on the good in my life instead of the bad, to think of solutions instead of problems and it keeps my mind in a good place.

2. Worship

Worship is not just singing songs. It is an attitude of the heart that recognizes Jesus is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

In Psalm 29:2 King David says, “Give unto the Lord the glory due to His name;
Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.” While God wants to hear our needs and help us, we must never forget that He alone is worthy of worship.

If you need help finding ways to worship here are two ways that have helped me: Firstly, you can listen to worship music that speaks to your heart, and even sing it aloud to God if you like. Secondly, you can find a list of the names of God and the scriptures that goes with them and speak them out with a heart full of gladness.

3. Declaration

Sometimes there will be things in your life that are difficult and weigh heavily on you when you wake up in the morning. There also may be times when you feel like you are in a spiritual battle and your strength is failing. One type of prayer that really works to fight the battle and lift your spirits is declaration.

Declaration is speaking out loud what God has promised He would do. Job 22:28 says, “You will also declare a thing, and it will be established for you; so light will shine on your ways.” Declaration is a form of spiritual warfare and when we declare out loud God’s words over our situation, it not only encourages us, but gives us power over the enemy as well.

4. Asking for our Needs

One of the things I love most about our God is the fact that He cares about our needs and wants us to present them before Him. In Hebrews 4:16 we are encouraged to “come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

God is a good Father who is there for his kids and helps them and we can rely on that. No one should ever be afraid to come to God and ask Him for help. It is one of the things that He loves to do.

5. Listen

OK, so this isn’t exactly a type of prayer, but I included it because prayer is a part of your relationship with God and no relationship is a one-way street. How would you feel if all someone you loved did was talk to you and never listened to what you had to say? God wants to reveal things to us and we have to stop long enough to listen.

Prayer can change your life. You will never regret the time spent with the Lord; as you pray, not only will you change, but things around you will change as well.
