6 Creative Ways to Share the Gospel

As Christians, we know that we are charged with sharing the good news of Jesus. We are familiar with the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20 right before Jesus ascended to heaven:

“Jesus came and told his disciples, ‘I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’”

But if you’re like most Christians, sharing your faith can be a little intimidating. You aren’t quite sure how to go about doing it without it being awkward or potentially unwelcome. After all, unsolicited information can lead to uncomfortable situations. At the same time, we do have to remember that the gospel can be offensive to some, so we need the Holy Spirit to help us discern when to share and when not to.

Regardless, we are called to present the good news, so here are some simple ways to share the gospel or at least open the door to a conversation.

#1 Christian Apparel

Wearing a Christian hat, shirt or jacket is an easy way to share the gospel. People wear things to support their favorite sports team, entertainer or brand all the time.

When you’re wearing something that’s unique, it’s sure to draw some attention and possibly produce a question about the meaning of your apparel. This may go without saying, but I’ll say it anyway: be sure that when you’re wearing Christian apparel that you’re actually acting in a way that would honor Jesus! We should aim to please God with our words and deeds at all times but especially when we are sporting Christian apparel.

#2 Christian Jewelry

Wearing a unique piece of Christian jewelry can draw attention and open a door for you to share about your faith. You could even initiate a conversation by commenting on someone else’s piece of jewelry first, and then show them your bracelet or necklace along with what it means to you.

Just be sure that you’re ready to respond to any questions about your faith like 1 Peter 3:15 encourages: “Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.”

#3 Social Media

Social media has become a platform for both positive and negative issues today. Why not use your influence on social media to share the good news of the gospel? But keep in mind, like other methods of sharing your faith, you cannot share about Jesus with one post and then tear someone down in the next post!

James 3:10-12 explains it like this: “And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right! Does a spring of water bubble out with both fresh water and bitter water? Does a fig tree produce olives, or a grapevine produce figs? No, and you can’t draw fresh water from a salty spring.”

So decide who you’re going to be on social media. Will you post only positive, uplifting information that glorifies God so that you can share your faith effectively? Or will you reduce your chances of being able to share the gospel because of the negative posts you share? You decide.

#4 Offer Help

There are many methods of sharing the gospel, but this may be one of the most memorable. When you see someone in need, offer to help. It’s that simple. Maybe it’s giving a few dollars to a mom at the grocery store who is a bit short in being able to pay for her groceries; maybe it’s giving a bottle of cold water to a homeless person holding a sign at a stoplight; maybe it’s offering words of hope to someone in despair. Keep your eyes and ears open for how you can offer practical help to others and share the gospel in the process.

#5 Offer Prayer

Similar to #4, we can offer prayer to someone who is hurting. All it takes is noticing others around you; who needs encouragement? Who needs healing? Who needs a miracle?

I don’t know what your experience has been, but in my experience, if I notice that someone is struggling and I compassionately offer to pray for them or their situation, 99 times out of 100, they will accept my offer. Rarely will people become offended when you ask if you can pray for them. Offering to pray for someone is a sure way to share the gospel and to show the compassion of Christ as well.

#6 Build Relationships

This method probably is the best long-term method for sharing the gospel. As we live our lives and go through the ups and downs that come, and people see that our faith in God is steady and we don’t waver in our devotion to Him, they will see the power of the gospel at work right in front of them. We will be a living witness of what Jesus can do in someone’s life who consistently lives for Him. And when they face difficulties, they will come to us for strength because of the genuineness of faith they’ve seen at work in us.

Bottom Line: Be Intentional

As you can see, there are many ways to share the gospel – many more than we’ve shared in this short article. But the bottom line is this: We must be intentional. We must take the Great Commission seriously and not leave it up to someone else. It’s our responsibility to reach those in our sphere of influence with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
