Greetings,
Some of you will remember the 1969 song by Steppenwolf – Born to be Wild. Some of the lyrics go like this:
“Like a true nature’s child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never want to die.”
While this song was a huge hit in 1969, the forces behind it seemed less than acceptable for followers of Jesus. However, as is often the case with most inspired song writing there is an element of truth to these words.
One phrase used to describe the word “wild” is “living in a state of nature”; or you could say “living in your natural habitat”.
Have you ever found yourself out of place? Has the thought that you were born for another time ever crossed you mind?
If so, it well may be because you were born to live under a different set of circumstances than you presently find yourself in. When anyone receives Jesus as their King and Lord they are born again with an experience that doesn’t fit in this world system.
You were born again to live in your natural habitat of life under the rule and influence of King Jesus. The natural habitat of the Kingdom of God is governed by an influence that permeates your soul so that you are prone to live for the good and reject the evil.
You were never born to simply obey rules but you do have a natural longing to do the right thing. Your wildness comes from a desire to live in a perfect environment with a perfect King ruling His kingdom. As of yet we do not live in such an environment but we know that one day we will experience all that we have been born for.
While we are in the present we have some instructions that we are to live by in order to reach the perfect kingdom. In 1 John 2:15 we are told to “Love not the world, nor the things which are in the world.”
That is, don’t love the things of this world system. Why? Because we have been made to live on a higher plane. We have been made to live in an atmosphere of love, peace and joy under the influence of the Holy Spirit.
We must remind ourselves often of this heritage that awaits us but in the meantime we rejoice that the same power that rules the kingdom of God is present with us now.
As we set our minds on things above and not things on the earth we can enjoy a sense of fulfillment and peace that comes from the Holy Spirit’s influence on a daily basis.
Take time today to invite Holy Spirit to lead you into peace and permeate the very air you breathe.
You were born to be wild…
Love to all… pb
