10 Bible Verses That Have Changed My Life

I love God’s Word. For over twenty-five years now it has been a source of strength and has helped me to understand who God is in my life. I can honestly say that I read it almost every day.

Over the years some verses have become my favourites, which I read on a regular basis, that I go to when I need encouragement or just a reminder of how much I am loved. So in this blog post, I want to share my top ten with you. All Scriptures are from the New King James Version

10. Hebrews 11: 1-2

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.”

This verse always reminds me to keep my eyes on the future and to believe God for bigger and better things.

9. 1 Corinthians 13:4-13

“Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.” (Verses 4-8)

The love chapter. Most people take it as how we should act towards others and it is a great guideline for that, but it is also a reminder of how God loves us perfectly.

8. Galatians 5:22-23

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”

For me, this Scripture reminds me that I don’t have to try to produce these things myself. As I allow God to move in my life, these fruit will grow and develop.

7. Philippians 4:13

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Everything God has called me to, He gives me the strength to accomplish no matter how difficult it is. I have made it through many things in life by remembering that verse and trusting it to be true.

6. 1 John 1:5

“This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.”

In one translation it says that God is good. When things go wrong in life, I always have to remember that it is not God who caused it, but He is the one who will see me through it.

5. Acts 10:38

“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”

This may seem like a strange verse to have as my favourite, but when you break it down it has so much meaning.

First of all, we have available to us everything that Jesus did, so God anoints us with the Holy Spirit and with power. Jesus is always good and will heal us. Since God was always with Jesus because he had the Holy Spirit, he will always be with we who have the Spirit too.

4. Proverbs 3:5-6

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

I have learned through this verse that I can trust God to lead in the day-to day-things of life. I don’t have to rely on my own knowledge and wisdom; I can learn from His.

3. Psalm 18

“I will love You, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised;
So shall I be saved from my enemies.” (Verses 1-3)

Right now I am spending a lot of time in Psalm 18. David was in one of the worst situations of his life and this Psalm talks about how he got out of it. It is a great reminder of how God brings us through things and all the things He does for us. If you need encouragement, this is a verse for you.

2. Jeremiah 29:11

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

God has a plan for my life, and it is a good one. I don’t need to worry about my future because God is right there in the midst of it, already working to make it awesome. I just have to trust and follow His leading.

1. Psalm 23

“The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever.”

Psalm 23 started out as the family verse, the one that was my Dad’s and Grandma’s favourite. That’s why I first read it, but over the years it has come to mean so much more. As I studied it, it became alive and a part of me.

There you go, the top ten verses that have changed my life. Now it is time for you to find verses that change yours. When you read something, and it touches your heart and mind, highlight it or make a list and then when you need to draw close to the Lord, go back and read those verses again and again until they become real to you.

God’s Word is powerful and will change you from the inside out if you let it. Make the decision to read it every day. It will be one that you never regret.
