5 Evening Prayers to End Your Day

Do you sometimes have trouble sleeping? Is it difficult to settle down after a stressful day? Modern life is busy and leaves us tense. What can you do to get rid of this tension so you can rest? Spend some time talking to God at the end of your day, and you can shed your troubles.

It is commonly understood that starting off your day with prayer is an excellent practice, but sometimes we forget that it is important to end your day in prayer as well. A bedtime prayer helps you to forget the turmoil of the day and concentrate instead on spiritual things.

Prayer is spiritual armour to protect you from attacks of the enemy and troubling thoughts. Here are five prayers you can use to end your day in a positive way and get your mind right for a blissful sleep.

1. Thankfulness

Lord, I thank you for walking with me through another day. Thank you for your love and provision, and for helping me do your will. Forgive me for anything I may have said or done that is displeasing to you, and help me to be the Christian you have created me to be. Be with me now as I sleep and fill my heart and mind with thoughts of you. Bless my family, my home and my loved ones and keep us safe from all harm.

Thankfulness is a great way to turn your thoughts in the right direction and away from worries and cares. This prayer helps you concentrate on God’s goodness and forget the trials of the day.

2. Rest from Worry

Lord Jesus, please cleanse my thoughts of anger and worry. I know that worry is not your will for me. Please provide for all my needs as you promise in your word. I give to you all my fears, cares and troubles, as you have told me to do. Bring peace and comfort to my heart and help me to rest in you and have peace. Forgive me of any sins I have committed today and fill my heart with your love.

When you are deeply troubled or worried, the Bible teaches us to bring this to God. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV) The second prayer leads you to give your problems over to God so that you may have rest.

3. The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. (Matthew 6: 9-13 KJV)

Jesus’ followers asked him to teach them to pray. The Lord’s Prayer is the prayer that he gave them. Pray this prayer or one that follows the same sort of format to help you to get your spirit in a place of peace. Don’t only use this prayer at night, but whenever you want to reach out to God.

4. Simple Nighttime Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep,
His Love to guard me through the night,
And wake me in the morning light.
If I should live another day
I pray the Lord to guide my way.
Amen

This simple children’s prayer has been around for centuries. You can pray it for yourself, or with your children to set the stage for a peaceful sleep and a feeling of comfort. The childlike simplicity may be more comfortable for you if you are unused to praying before sleeping.

5. Peace and comfort

Dear Lord, I need your presence. Please come and fill me with your spirit, and remove all troubling thoughts and fears. Comfort and guide me as I sleep and protect me from all evil. Help me to seek you and follow you all the days of my life, and keep me from sin. Protect me and my loved ones from harm and help us to know and love you. This I ask in Jesus’ name.

This prayer is short and simple and will bring peace, comfort and protection to you.

Ending your day with prayer is an excellent way to settle your emotions, bring peace and comfort to your spirit, and protect you from fear.

God is always waiting to hear from us and welcomes prayer at all times. Don’t wait until you are in the middle of a crisis to pray, but instead seek God daily. You will become more comfortable praying, and when a crisis does come, you will know how to pray for God’s help. Sleep well.
