How to Face the Walls of Jericho in Your Life

I have faced that wall so many times in my life that I should be able to tell you the names of each brick in it! LOL.

If you are new to the Bible and don’t know what the Wall of Jericho is, let me quickly explain it to you. God had told the Israelites that He would bring them into their own ‘Promised Land’, flowing with milk and honey. It would be a place a blessing and safety.

BUT FIRST…

They had to conquer it. They had already spent forty years in the desert because they didn’t trust God the first time He wanted to bring them in. Now they had a decision to make: go in and trust God or spend another forty years getting ready. Thankfully, this time, they decided to go in, and that is where they hit their first obstacle and test. The city of Jericho.

It is said that Jericho had walls that were thick enough to run chariots on the top. It was a fortified city and the only way the Israelites were going to defeat it was through a miracle.

There are things that God wants us to do and obstacles that need defeating in our lives, so we can become powerful Christians who can change the world for Jesus. The walls of Jericho represent growing opportunities for us in our relationships with the Lord. He already knows that we can overcome them in His strength, but WE need to learn that.

Let’s make one thing clear: God never puts a wall of Jericho in our life to defeat us. Any test we face is to make us stronger, not grind us into the dust. 1 Corinthians 15:57 says, “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” So the FIRST STEP when facing a wall is to determine in your heart that it is conquerable in Jesus.

Each time God has wanted to bring me to a new level in my walk with Him and life, there always comes what seems to be, at the time, an insurmountable wall. It could be finances, resources or health issues that stood in my way of getting to where I wanted to be, and I had to make a choice. Press forward and trust God to get me through or remain where I was and eventually start going backward.

Most times I choose to go forward and those times that I remained, the Lord was patient with me and encouraged me until I was ready. Which leads us to step number two.

Asking God What to Do

Only God knows how you are going to get around, over, under, or through that wall and each time it is different. That is why we need Him to tell us what to do. If we try to do what we think will work, or what worked last time, we will fail.

Now here is the crazy part. Most of the time He is going to tell you to do something that is going to seem completely weird, crazy, illogical or just plain nonsensical and don’t be surprised when the first words out of your mouth are, “Are you kidding me?”

All of us want proof that what God just said to us is true and God will confirm it in your heart that it is. Look at what the Israelites had to do:

“See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor. You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go all around the city once. This you shall do six days. And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark.

But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him.”

-Joshua 6:2-5

They had a decision to make, which leads to our third and final step…

Just Do It!

That is where faith comes in. When you know what God wants you to do, you have to move forward and do it. Let me give you an example from my life.

Many years ago, when my kids were small, we had no extra money for anything. We were barely getting by, and trusting God each day. We felt the Lord tell us to give a sum of money to a ministry that needed it and we obeyed. Even though it wasn’t much, it was practically everything we had. There were things we needed that money for, such as fixing our leaking roof that was causing problems.

A few weeks later a wall of ice came off our roof, tore some shingles off and took not only the deck off of the front of our house, but some siding as well. Now you may be wondering, what kind of victory is that? You will see.

We took pictures with our first digital camera (that’s how long ago it was) but didn’t call our insurers because it was an “act of God”, and there was no way we would be covered. We were thankful though because the ice completely missed our one and only car which was parked beside the deck!

A few months went by, and the ice melted, and we broke up the deck. One day we were talking to a friend about it who was a real estate agent, and he told us to call the insurance company. Now to us it made no sense to do so, but we did what he asked.

To make a long story short, not only did the insurance company approve of replacing the deck, but the whole roof as well. Even though only a few shingles came off, they couldn’t fix it, and it had to be totally replaced. What started out as something really bad turned into something amazing and it was only God who could do it. My husband and I truly believe that us being obedient in giving the gift opened the doors for a rich blessing.

God Will Never Let You Down

So, don’t be afraid to do what God has promised. I can tell you from experience that each time I have faced that wall and done what God told me to, I won, and you will too!

He has given you the victory, and it is now your time to take it and use it and don’t forget to give God all the glory at the end of it, for He alone is worthy!

Faith is spiritual and can only be understood in a spiritual realm, is the ability to believe God who is the Spirit, that is why the bible in the book of Hebrews 11:6 says we can’t please God without faith, Faith works, it needs to be put into action for it to come alive, it connects us with God, we can perceive the heart and the mind of God by faith, without faith we don’t have a spiritual senses and feelings, the Israelites by asking God what to do and didd what He told them, that was a perfect example of.

ALL SCRIPTURE IS ALLEGORICAL and in spiritual language!

There is only one relevance to the number SEVEN.
    Seven days a week.
The defeat will be accomplished when we stay in the works of the Father every day.

Interestingly the story is not new.

The Egyptian story of the scarab… at the temple of karnak, walk around the beetle seven times to conquer what ugly thing might be facein you.

Embrace the enemy! Love thine enemy!

It is God who placed it/him there!
