How to Get Perspective on your Life: Remembering God is in Control

We have all gone through times in our lives where we don’t understand what is happening or why God seems so silent. These times can be very frustrating, and even cause you to question if God is there, or if He is, does He even care?

If you have thought that, don’t beat yourself up about it. We all have. Even the most mature Christian has had moments of doubt or questioning God. It is part of your growth as a Christian. Every time you overcome, you realize just how good God is, and it makes you stronger.

Here is the first thing to remember about your life. God sees the big picture; He sees your whole life, and He knew everything that would happen in it before time even began. Let that rattle around in your brain for a bit. Before the world was created, God knew you and everything you would go through in your life and even planned it out.

(Don’t just read through that last paragraph quickly and move on. You need to let that sink in, and once you do, your life will never be the same again!)

God is not surprised by your situation, and He already has everything in place to help you come out of it victoriously. In Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) God says, “For I know the plans I have for you… plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

You have a part to play

You have a choice, and it is a pretty simple one: will you trust Jesus in your life or not? Sometimes we think that God has to prove Himself to us. The reality is that Jesus accomplished everything we need on the Cross. He already paid the price and had nothing to prove. We, on the other hand, have to prove something to our Heavenly Father.

God won’t move in our life unless we let Him. He has given us free will, and He will not go against it, so if we choose not to trust God, He goes by it. So ultimately the choice is yours.

Here is what I have found in my twenty-eight years of serving the Lord. He has never let me down. When I have trusted Him, he has always come through in ways I could never imagine. Even when I didn’t trust Him, He did not give up on me. He would come and speak to my heart and encourage me to take that first step of faith, and as I did, our relationship grew.

I can’t say that I am perfect in trusting God because there are still days when I don’t, but my faith in God is bigger than what I could believe for even five years ago. Every time I believe and win, I can then trust Him for bigger things, and it is amazing some of the things that have happened in my life.

How to learn to trust God

God gives us the tools we need to get through our trials. So what sort of instruments does He give us?

1. The Bible

God’s word is powerful and when we read it, memorize it, and say it out loud, it builds up our Spirit to be able to trust God.

2. Patience

This one was hard for me. I had to learn that God’s timing and my timing are never the same. He always takes longer than I want Him to, but if I wait, He always comes through.

3. Don’t make decisions under pressure

If you are trusting God for some things, don’t make quick decisions you will regret later because you think that God is not coming through. Many times He is working behind the scenes making everything right, and we can wreck it by making decisions quickly.

4. Don’t give in to fear

The enemy of our souls does not want us trusting God and will put fear on you to make you react instead of being pro-active. Things never turn out well for me when I act in fear. Thankfully, God has always been there and helped even when I messed up. Which leads to…

5. You will make mistakes

This is a learning process for the rest of your life. You will make mistakes as you learn. God can handle it. Ask Him to forgive you, forgive yourself, and start working to trust Him again.

6. Never give up

God will come through; He always does. It may be just in the nick of time, but it will happen.

7. Only listen to people who trust God

Never bring your problems or situations to someone who has not proven that they trust God. They will only bring you down and cause you to give up. Go to someone who has been there and done that successfully, and let them encourage you to trust God for more.

God is faithful, and His love for you is so great. He is a good Father that can be trusted to lead your life. He will never, ever let you down. You can take that to the bank.

There most likely is nothing that causes shift in your life more than when a permanent separation happens between spouses. May the peace if God be a guard over important decisions you need to make in your life. God’s peace will guide into the next phase of your life.
He has you on His mind….pb
